Overview
Amr ibn Kulthum ibn Malik al-Taghlibi, of the Banu Taghlib, a pre-Islamic poet and the author of one of the Mu'allaqat. His mother was Layla daughter of al-Muhalhil, and his maternal uncle was Kulayb. 2
He killed Amr ibn Hind, the lord of al-Hira, when he insulted his mother Layla. 3
He answered al-Harith ibn Abi Shamir al-Ghassani when he threatened to raid Taghlib with the words: "No people ever woke but their judgement was sharpened and their community was strengthened, so do not wake their sleepers." Al-Harith raided them, was defeated, and his brother was killed. 2
