Overview
Amr ibn Kulthum al-Taghlibi killed the king of al-Hira, Amr ibn Hind, known by the nickname Mudrit al-Hijara. 2
The account
Ibn al-Athir reports that Ibn Hind asked his companions: "Do you know of any Arab who would refuse to let his mother serve my mother?" They said: Amr ibn Kulthum, whose mother was Layla daughter of Muhalhil. He invited him to visit, and ordered that his mother visit Hind, his own mother. 2
Hind asked Layla to hand her a dish. Layla said: "Let the one who has the need rise for her need." Hind insisted, and Layla cried out: "Woe to our humiliation, O Banu Taghlib!" Her son heard her, took the sword of Ibn Hind hanging in the tent, and struck his head with it, killing him. Then Taghlib plundered his wealth and horses. 2
Note
The date is approximate; its basis is that the event took place in Ibn Hind's reign over al-Hira before Islam. The report rests on a single source. It needs an additional source.
