Overview

Al-Zubayr ibn Abd al-Muttalib, an uncle of the Prophet and one of the sons of Abd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim whom al-Mubarakfuri's "Al-Rahiq al-Makhtum" counts in its section on the Prophet's family. 1

Counting the sons of Abd al-Muttalib

Al-Rahiq al-Makhtum counts ten sons for Abd al-Muttalib: al-Harith, al-Zubayr, Abu Talib, Abd Allah, Hamza, Abu Lahab, al-Ghaydaq, al-Muqawwim, Dirar and al-Abbas. It mentions other views that make them eleven by adding Qutham, or thirteen by adding Abd al-Ka'ba and Hajl. 1 2 3. He is thus a brother of Abd Allah, the Prophet's father. 1

Later in the book

Al-Rahiq al-Makhtum returns to al-Zubayr ibn Abd al-Muttalib in the section on youth, when it mentions the Pact of al-Fudul; his biography will be completed there.

What is not recorded here

Al-Rahiq al-Makhtum says nothing here of his life, his religion or his death. Only what the book says is recorded here; what the biographical and genealogical books say needs a source to be read and quoted.

For young visitors

Abd al-Muttalib, the grandfather of the Prophet, had many sons and daughters, and al-Zubayr was one of them, so he was one of the uncles and aunts of the Prophet.

On the Pact of al-Fudul (Al-Rahiq al-Makhtum p. 60)

The book says that, when the wronged man of Zabid climbed Mount Abu Qubays and called out his grievance, al-Zubayr ibn Abd al-Muttalib took up the matter and said that this affair would not be left alone. The Banu Hashim, the Banu al-Muttalib, Asad, Zuhra and Taym gathered in the house of Abd Allah ibn Judan, and they concluded the pact and took from al-As ibn Wa'il the right of the wronged man of Zabid. 4 5
