al-Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh

Al-Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh ibn Afra' al-Ansariyya al-Najjariyya of Banu Adi ibn al-Najjar. Iyas ibn al-Bukayr al-Laythi married her and she bore him Muhammad ¹. Ibn Abi Khaythama said she was among the women who pledged at the Tree ¹; Abu Umar said she would sometimes go on campaign with the Messenger of God ².

Bukhari, al-Nasa'i and Abu Muslim al-Kajji relate from al-Rubayyi': "we went on campaign with the Messenger of God; we gave the men water, served them, and carried the slain and wounded back to Medina" — in Bukhari's account: "we carried water and treated the wounded" ².

Abu Ubayda ibn Muhammad ibn Ammar relates that he said to al-Rubayyi': describe the Messenger of God to me. She said: "my son, had you seen him, you would have seen the sun rising" ².

Bukhari and al-Tirmidhi relate from her: "the Prophet came in to me the morning after my wedding-night and sat on my bedding as you sit now; our little girls beat the tambourine and lamented those of my fathers slain at Badr, until one said 'and among us is a prophet who knows what tomorrow holds' — he told her: leave that, and say what you were saying" ².

Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah record several hadiths on the chain of Ibn Aqil from her describing the Prophet's ablution, among them: "he would come to us and say: pour me water for ablution" ².

Ibn Sa'd relates from her that she told her husband: may I ransom myself from you for all I own? He said yes; she gave him everything but her dress, so he disputed with her before Uthman, who told him: "her condition stands". Another account says Uthman said: "the stipulation stands — take everything down to her head-ties". This was during Uthman's siege, year 35 AH ².

She related from the Prophet; from her relate her daughter A'isha bint Anas ibn Malik (may God be pleased with him), Sulayman ibn Yasar, Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman, Nafi' client of Ibn Umar, Ubada ibn al-Walid ibn Ubada ibn al-Samit (may God be pleased with him), Khalid ibn Dhakwan and Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil ².
