Overview
Al-Ma'mun ibn al-Mansur al-Muwahhidi, an Almohad caliph who ruled between 624 and 630 AH. Ibn Khaldun describes him as having opposed the doctrine of his state. 1
He was given the allegiance in Seville and entered Marrakesh in 626 AH with reinforcements from the Christians. He reckoned the deeds of the Almohad shaykhs against him, and killed a hundred of their notables. 1
He issued a letter to the regions ordering the name of the Mahdi Ibn Tumart erased from the coinage and the khutba. He permitted the Christians to build a church in Marrakesh. 1
Then Ifriqiya withdrew its allegiance to him in favour of Abu Zakariya al-Hafsi in 627 AH, and he died in the valley of Umm al-Rabi' in 630 AH. 1
The Gregorian date of his death (about 1232 CE) is derived from the Hijri date.
