Summary
Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Abu Salih al-Sammam, from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him), that the Messenger of God ﷺ said: horses are a reward for one man, a cover for another, and a burden on another. As for the one for whom they are a reward: a man who tethers them in God's path and lengthens their tether in a pasture or meadow; whatever they eat during that tether in the pasture or meadow is good deeds for him; and whoever tethers them for self-sufficiency and chastity, not forgetting God's right in their necks and backs, they are a cover for him; and whoever tethers them for pride, show, and enmity toward the people of Islam, they are a burden on him. 1
