Summary
Malik was asked about the ransom of fasting, almsgiving or the rite: is its owner free to choose? He said: everything in the Book of God concerning expiations allows its owner to choose; whatever he wishes to do, he does. As for the rite, it is a sheep; as for fasting, three days; as for food, he feeds six needy people, two mudds each, by the first mudd, the mudd of the Prophet ﷺ. 1
