Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Abdallah ibn Abi Bakr
Summary
Malik transmits from Abdallah ibn Abi Bakr, from his father, that the Messenger of God ﷺ appointed a man from Banu Abd al-Ashhal to collect the charity; when he came back he asked for camels from the charity. The Messenger of God became angry until anger showed on his face, and the sign of his anger was that his eyes turned red. He said: the man asks me for what is not fit for me or for him; if I refuse, I dislike refusing, and if I give, I give him what is not fit for me or for him. The man said: Messenger of God, I will never ask you for anything from it again. The editor notes that most of the transmitters narrated it from Malik as relayed (mursal), and that Ahmad ibn Mansur al-Tali narrated it from Malik from Abdallah ibn Abi Bakr from Anas, a report the editor does not rely on for those who narrated it as relayed. 1
