Summary
Malik says that Said ibn al-Musayyab, Sulayman ibn Yasar, Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm (may God be pleased with him), and Ibn Shihab forbade a man to sell wheat for gold and then buy dates with that gold before he takes possession of the gold from the sale in which he bought the wheat. But if he buys dates with the gold he sold the wheat for, on credit, from someone other than the seller, before taking possession of the gold, and the buyer of the dates refers the seller of the dates to his debtor, to whom he sold the wheat for gold, for the gold due to him as the price of the dates, then there is no harm. Malik said: I asked several scholars about this, and they saw no harm in it. 1
