Summary

A saying of Malik about the runaway slave: if his master knows where he is, or does not know, and his absence is recent and his life and return are hoped for, Malik holds that he should pay zakat on him; but if the flight has lasted long and he has given up hope, he does not hold that zakat should be paid on him. The editor notes that copy M reads 'hopes', and that Abu Musab transmitted it from Malik. 1
