Summary
Malik said: the most beloved amount to me for which cutting is due is three dirhams, whether the exchange rises or falls, because the Prophet ﷺ cut off a hand for a shield whose value was three dirhams, and Uthman cut off a hand for a citron valued at three dirhams. This is the most beloved of what he has heard on the matter. 1
