Summary
Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Ubayd Allah ibn Abdallah ibn Utba, from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) and Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani (may God be pleased with him), that they told him two men disputed before the Prophet ﷺ. The first said: judge between us by God's book. The other, who was the more learned of them, said: allow me to speak. He said: my son was a hired worker for this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. He told me that my son deserved stoning, so I ransomed him with a hundred sheep and a slave-girl. Then I asked people of knowledge, and they told me that my son deserved a hundred lashes and a year's exile, and that the stoning falls on his wife. The Prophet said: the sheep and the slave-girl are returned to you; his son is flogged a hundred times and exiled for a year; and he ordered Unays al-Aslami to go to the other man's wife, and if she confessed, to stone her. She confessed, and he stoned her. 1
