Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Zayd ibn Aslam that a man confessed to adultery against himself in the time of the Prophet ﷺ; he asked for a whip. A broken whip was brought, and he said: above this. A new whip was brought whose tip was not cut, and he said: below this. A whip was brought that had been used and was soft, and he ordered him flogged with it. Then he said: it is time for you to cease the prescribed punishments of God; whoever has touched anything of these filthy acts should conceal it with God's covering, for whoever reveals his face to us, we will take the prescribed punishment against him. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the group of Muwatta narrators transmitted it as mursal. 1
