Summary
Malik transmits from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Amra al-Ansari that his mother intended to free a slave, then died before she did. He asked al-Qasim ibn Muhammad whether it would benefit her if her son freed a slave on her behalf. Al-Qasim mentioned the report of Saad ibn Ubada on this, and the Prophet ﷺ answered yes. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the chain is broken, because al-Qasim did not meet Saad, and that the story is transmitted by many routes concerning charity, manumission and fasting. 1
