Summary

Malik says that a slave from a Christian or a Jew is not valid for an obligatory manumission, nor a contract of manumission, a conditional freedman, an umm walad, or a slave freed for a term, nor a blind slave. The manumission of a People of the Book or a Magian is lawful as a voluntary act. Malik cited the verse of Surat Muhammad to show that the 'favour' mentioned there is manumission. 1
