Malik says it reached him that Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf (may God be pleased with him) rented land, which stayed in his hands on rent until he died. His son said: from how long it stayed in his hands, I did not think it was other than ours, until he mentioned it to us at his death, and we were ordered to pay what was due on its rent, in gold or silver. 1
