Summary
Malik says there is no harm in a man buying gold for silver, or silver for gold, by estimate, if it is bullion or jewellery already worked. But counted dirhams and counted dinars, no one should buy by estimate until he knows and counts them. If such are bought by estimate, that is intended for uncertainty, when counting is left and they are bought by estimate, and that is not among the sales of Muslims. Bullion or jewellery that is weighed may be sold by estimate without harm. 1
