Summary
Malik transmits from Thabit ibn al-Ahnaf that he married the umm walad of Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) (may God be pleased with him). Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman summoned him; when he came, whips were laid out, two iron shackles were there, and two of Abdullah's slaves were seated. Abdullah said: divorce her, or by the one who is sworn by, I will do such and such to you. Thabit said: she is divorced a thousand times. He left, and met Abdullah ibn Umar on the road to Mecca and told him. Ibn Umar was angry and said it is not a divorce, she is not forbidden to you; go back to your family. Thabit was not reassured, so he went to Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, governor of Mecca, who said the same. Ibn al-Zubayr wrote to Jabir ibn al-Aswad al-Zuhri, governor of Medina, ordering him to punish Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman and leave Thabit free to return to his family. 1
