Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hazm (may God be pleased with him) from Abd al-Rahman ibn Handhala al-Zuraqi, that a client of Quraysh called Ibn Marsa told him: I was sitting with Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him). When he had prayed the noon prayer he said, "O Yarfa, bring that writing", a letter he had written about the paternal aunt, so that we might ask about her and inquire. Yarfa brought it, and Umar called for a ewer or a bowl of water, and wiped the writing off in it, and said: if God had approved of her, He would have kept her; if God had approved of her, He would have kept her. The editor notes that the reference to Yarfa is the chamberlain of Umar. 1
