Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Habban from his paternal uncle Wasi' ibn Habban, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer: he prayed while Abdullah ibn Umar leaned his back against the qibla wall. When he finished his prayer, he turned towards him from his left side. Ibn Umar asked why he did not turn to his right, and he answered that he saw him and so turned to him. Ibn Umar said he was right, and that a person may turn in prayer to his right or left as he wishes. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab and Suwayd transmitted it. 1
