Chain of transmission

  1. Malik ibn Anas
  2. Nafi' al-Madani

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Nafi', in the chapter on recitation in the sunset and night prayers: when Abdullah ibn Umar prayed alone he recited the Opening chapter and a surah in each of the four rak'as, sometimes two or three surahs in one rak'a of an obligatory prayer, and in the first two rak'as of the sunset prayer the Opening chapter and a surah. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Suwayd and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan transmitted it, and that Abd al-Razzaq, Ibn Abi Shayba and al-Tahawi transmitted briefer versions from Nafi' by other channels. 1
