Summary
A ruling of Malik in the chapter on wiping the head and the ears: he was asked about wiping over a turban or a headscarf. He said that neither a man nor a woman should wipe over a turban or a headscarf, but should wipe the head. The editor notes al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba's report that the Prophet ﷺ wiped over the turban, in Muslim, Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who called it sound. Al-Tirmidhi said wiping over the turban was the view of Abu Bakr, Umar and Anas, and held by al-Awza'i, Ahmad and Ishaq; many Companions and Successors said one should wipe over the turban only with the head, which is the view of al-Thawri, Malik, Ibn al-Mubarak and al-Shafi'i. 1
