Summary

A report of Sahl ibn Sa'd and Salama ibn al-Akwa' in the virtues of Ali, in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions. On the morning of the conquest, the Prophet ﷺ called people for the banner and chose Ali while he had sore eyes; Ali was healed and the Prophet said, "that God guides one man through you is better for you than red camels". He then ordered him to call them to Islam peacefully before fighting. 1

The Conquest of Khaybar

In Muharram 7 AH (May-June 628 CE), the Prophet marched with 1,400 companions of Hudaybiyya against the formidable Jewish oasis of Khaybar; following fierce assaults and the capture of eight major fortresses (including Na'im, al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh, al-Zubayr, Ubayy, and al-Qamus), the Jewish leaders surrendered and agreed to cultivate the land for half of its produce.
