Overview

Ghatafan is a tribe of Qays Aylan, of Mudar. The Sealed Nectar says that among the Qays Aylan were Banu Sulaym, Banu Hawazin and Banu Ghatafan, and among Ghatafan were Abs, Dhubyan, Ashja' and Ghani ibn A'sur. 1 2

Dwellings

In describing how the Adnanite tribes were spread out, the author says that Dhubyan lived near Tayma as far as Hawran. 3 4

Wars between kin

The author says that rivalry for honour and leadership often led to wars between tribes that share one father. He gives as examples the Aws and al-Khazraj, Abs and Dhubyan, and Bakr and Taghlib. 5

The raids of Ghatafan, their position in the Confederates' war, and the expeditions of Dhu Amarr and Dhat al-Riqa' are presented in the entries on those expeditions (see the expedition of Dhu Amarr).

For young visitors
