Banu Zubayd

A Yemeni tribe, which Ibn Ishaq counts with Murad among Madhhij ¹.

Amr ibn Ma'd Karib came to the Prophet with people of Banu Zubayd and embraced Islam; see the arrival of Amr ibn Ma'd Karib ². The Prophet appointed Farwa ibn Musayk over Murad, Zubayd and all of Madhhij ¹. When the Prophet died, Amr apostatised among his people of Banu Zubayd ³. In the lists of the Abyssinian emigrants, Mahmiyya ibn al-Jaz' is said to be one of them, an ally of Banu Sahm ⁴.

The book says that a man of Zubayd came to Mecca with merchandise. al-As ibn Wa'il of Sahm bought it from him and withheld his payment. He appealed to the allies (al-Ahlaf), who paid him no heed, so he climbed Mount Abi Qubays and called out verses describing his wrong. That was the cause of the Pact of al-Fudul, which won him his right ^{5 6}.
