Overview
The day of al-Radm and his poetry
Shortly before Islam there was the day of al-Radm between Murad and Hamdan, in which Hamdan inflicted heavy losses on his people. Farwa said in it his poem: "If they conquer, they have always been conquerors; if they are conquered, they are not for ever overcome, and fortune turns in alternation." 1 2
His coming and conversion
When he set out to the Prophet, having broken with the kings of Kinda, he spoke two verses in which he addressed Muhammad in hope of his bounty. 2 When he reached him, the Prophet asked him, as Ibn Ishaq reports: "Did it grieve you what befell your people on the day of al-Radm?" He answered: "Who would not grieve, if he were struck as my people were struck on the day of al-Radm?" The Prophet said: "That has only added to the good of your people in Islam." 2 The Prophet appointed him over Murad, Zubayd and all of Madhhij, and sent with him Khalid ibn Said ibn al-As to collect the alms. He remained in his lands with him until the Prophet died. See the coming of Farwa ibn Musayk. 2
Amr ibn Ma'dikarib
Amr ibn Ma'dikarib stayed among the Banu Zubayd, where Farwa was in charge. When the Prophet died, Amr apostatised and said two verses in which he reproached Farwa's rule and called him Abu Umayr. See the apostasy of Amr. 3
In al-Baladhuri
The Prophet sent him with Qays ibn Hubayra al-Makshuh to Yemen, to fight al-Aswad al-Ansi and win over the sons of Abna. The news of the Prophet's death reached them in Yemen. 4
