The Prophet forbids Ali to take Abu Jahl's daughter alongside Fatima

between 2 and 11 CE

Medina

Ali wished to take Abu Jahl's daughter besides Fatima; the Prophet ﷺ addressed the people from the pulpit and said that Fatima is a part of him, and refused the request of Banu Hashim. Al-Sallabi reads the prohibition as resting on two stated reasons, the harm to Fatima and the fear of jealousy, and not as a ban on a lawful thing (pp. 84-85).

Opinions on the question

The question: Did the Prophet forbid the marriage as a prohibition, or report that the two would not be together?

First opinion · Sunni tradition (the museum's frame)Main reference

The prohibition rests on two stated reasons: the harm to Fatima and the fear of jealousy

Another view: the words state what God's favour has decided, that the two would not be together, and are not a prohibition

The birth, naming and aqiqa of Hasan ibn Ali

Al-Sallabi gives Hasan's birth as the middle of Ramadan in the third year after the Hijra, notes other reports, and says he prefers the fourth year in his own sira; Ali first named him Harb, and the Prophet renamed him Hasan; for the aqiqa, silver equal to the weight of the infant's hair was given in charity instead of sacrifice (p. 86).
