Overview
In Rabi al-Awwal 888 AH Abu Abd Allah, son of the sultan Abu al-Hasan, lord of Granada, heard that his uncle at Malaga had taken booty from the Christians. He went out to raid with the people of Granada and the East, until he reached the districts of Lucena, and killed, captured and took booty. 1
The battle and the capture
The Christians from the surrounding districts gathered against him, with the lord of Qabra among them, and they cut the Muslims off from their lands among mountains and rough ground. The army was broken; many were captured and others were killed. Among the captives was the sultan Abu Abd Allah, and he was not recognised at first. Then the lord of Lucena learned of him, and the lord of Qabra wanted to take him from him, so he fled with him by night to the lord of Castile, and gained rank with him by doing so. 1
