Summary
In Dhu al-Qa'da 1 AH (May 623 CE) the Prophet ﷺ sent a third detachment (sariyya) under Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, with twenty men of the Muhajirun, to intercept a Quraysh caravan passing the place of al-Kharrar near al-Juhfa 1.
The march and the outcome
The Prophet gave the detachment a white banner, carried by al-Miqdad ibn Amr, and ordered them not to go beyond al-Kharrar. The fighters went on foot, hiding by day and marching by night, until they reached al-Kharrar on the morning of the fifth day. They found that the caravan had passed the day before, and the detachment returned without any encounter 1 2.

In Dhu al-Qa'da of the first year, the Prophet sent Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas with twenty riders to intercept the Quraysh caravan. They did not go beyond al-Kharrar, because the caravan had passed the day before 1.
