Overview
Background
Valencia came under the control of the judge Abu Ahmad ibn Jahhaf, who handed it over to the amir of the Muslims, Yusuf ibn Tashfin. Yusuf ibn Ahmad ibn Hud, lord of Saragossa, sent Rodrigo to seize it. He entered it and made a pact with the judge, stipulating that he should produce a store that had belonged to al-Qadir ibn Dhi al-Nun. 2
The seizure
He found the store with the judge, burned him with fire and did harm in the city. al-Maqqari quotes Ibn al-Abbar that the siege lasted twenty months, and that the Cid entered it by treaty; others said that he entered it by force. Among those burned there was the man of letters Abu Ja'far ibn al-Bunni. 2
Yusuf ibn Tashfin sent Mazdali, who took it in 495 AH. See the Cid. 2
