Overview
Abu Muhammad 'Abdallah ibn Muhammad al-Ilyusi — of Badajoz in al-Andalus; learned in letters and languages, deep in their knowledge and mastery, he settled at Valencia where people gathered to him, read to him and drew from him — a fine teacher, clear explainer, trustworthy and exact. 2
Works and death
He authored useful books: al-Muthallath in two volumes, al-Iqtidab (a sharh of Adab al-kuttab), a sharh of Abu'l-'Ala' al-Ma'arri's Saqt al-zand, a book on the five letters, al-Hilal (a sharh of the jumal verses), al-Tanbih 'ala'l-asbab al-mujiba li-ikhtilaf al-umma and a sharh of the Muwatta; it is said he never left the Maghrib and that everything he discoursed on was of the finest quality; born in 444 at Badajoz, he died in mid-Rajab 521 at Valencia. 2
