Worship and the pillars

Overview

Duha, for the jurists, is between the sun's rising and its zenith; salat al-duha is the prayer performed in that time. 1

Awwabin and ishraq

Some hold the awwabin prayer is salat al-duha, the two being synonymous; others place the awwabin between maghrib and 'isha'. The ishraq prayer, mentioned by some Shafi'is in the duha discussion, is on the relied-upon view of al-Ramli and al-Ziyadi the same as the duha prayer; a view makes it two rak'as at the sun's rising. 1 2

Form

Among the voluntary prayers for which no congregation is prescribed: at least two rak'as, at most twelve, with salam every two. 2

The ruling on one who abandons prayer

Al-Sallabi quotes Ali: whoever does not pray is an unbeliever. He then reports from al-Nawawi the dispute over one who neglects prayer while believing it obligatory: the majority (Malik, al-Shafi'i) hold him a sinner to be asked to repent, others hold him an unbeliever, a view ascribed to Ali; Abu Hanifa and the Kufans hold him not an unbeliever but to be disciplined.
