Overview
The Pledge of al-Aqaba
The books of the sira report, from Umm Amara, and the book "Women around the Messenger" cites it through the chain of Ibn Sa'd from al-Waqidi, that the men shook hands with the Prophet ﷺ at the pledge. When only she and Umm Muni were left, her husband Aqaba said that they were two women who had attended with them. The Prophet said: "I have pledged to you both; I do not shake hands with women" 2. (The Pledge of al-Aqaba)
Notes for researchers
- The report here is taken from the book "Women around the Messenger", which attributes it to al-Waqidi and Ibn Sa'd. Its chain should be checked directly in al-Tabaqat al-Kubra before its wording is relied on.
- The citing book notes that her biography is missing from many books of the sira. Her dates of birth and death are not written here because her source has not yet been read.
- al-Isaba (Ibn Hajar) gives her entry as number 1520 according to the citing book, and we have not yet compared the text.
