Overview
His title
al-Mas'udi reports that he was given the title "Dhu al-Yaminayn" (Lord of the Two Hands), because on the day of al-Rayy he struck Abbas ibn al-Layth with both his hands on his sword 3.
The siege of Baghdad
al-Mas'udi reports that he camped in the orchard known as the Tahiri Gate of the Rams, then moved from al-Yasiriyya to Bab al-Anbar. When al-Amin asked for safe conduct, Tahir said, in substance, that he would not accept until al-Amin placed his hand in his and came down under his judgement 4.
