Overview
The campaign to India
According to al-Salabi, he received a sultanic decree to equip a fleet at Suez and set out for India, and to cut the roads leading to Mecca from the Portuguese. He reached Jeddah in seven days, then headed for Kamaran and took control of Aden, and appointed over it a garrison of six hundred soldiers 2.
He besieged Diu and could not storm it, and withdrew after losing some four hundred of his men. He then took one of the forward fortresses and captured eighty Portuguese. The source holds that the fortresses would have surrendered had it not been for the new Portuguese reinforcements 2.
The date is approximate in the source, and the entry needs an additional source.
