خريم بن أوس الطائي

خريم بن أوس الطائي

In al-Baladhuri: Khuraym ibn Aws ibn Haritha ibn La'm al-Ta'i, who told the Prophet ﷺ 'if God opens al-Hira for you, give me Buqayla's daughter'; at the peace he reminded Khalid, Bashir ibn Sa'd and Muhammad ibn Maslama (may God be pleased with him) al-Ansari testified, Khalid excepted her from the treaty and delivered her to him — her people bought her back for a thousand dirhams though old, telling him he sold cheap, and he answered 'I did not think a number could exceed a thousand' — a variant makes the asker a Rabi'a man, the first account firmer.

Overview

Khurayim ibn Aws ibn Haritha ibn Lam al-Ta'i. Al-Baladhuri relates that he said to the Prophet: "If God gives you victory over al-Hira, give me the daughter of Buqayla." 1

The conquest of al-Hira

When Khalid made peace with the people of al-Hira, Khurayim reminded him of this, and Bashir ibn Sa'd and Muhammad ibn Maslama, the two Ansari men, testified for him. Khalid exempted her from the peace and handed her over to him. Her people bought her back from him for a thousand dirhams, and she was an old woman. He was told: "You have undervalued her." He said: "I did not think that any number could be more than a thousand." Another report says that the questioner was a man of Rabi'a, but the first is more firmly established in al-Baladhuri. 1

Abd al-Masih ibn Amr ibn Buqayla

In al-Baladhuri: Abd al-Masih ibn Amr ibn Qays ibn Hayyan ibn Buqayla — Buqayla's name being al-Harith — of Azd; an old man when he came out to negotiate al-Hira's peace with Khalid ibn al-Walid, their famous exchange running 'from my mother's belly', 'in my clothes', 'on the earth', 'we built them for the fool until the wise man comes'; they agreed a hundred thousand yearly — the first money carried to Medina from Iraq, year 12.
