al-Muthanna ibn Haritha

المثنى بن حارثة

His name appears in the index of the third volume, alongside Abu Ubayd ibn Mas'ud, for the year 13: 'Account of al-Muthanna ibn Haritha and Abu Ubayd ibn Mas'ud' 1. According to al-Baladhuri, al-Muthanna ibn Haritha ibn Salama ibn Dimdim al-Shaybani used to raid al-Sawad with men of his people. Abu Bakr wrote him a written commission over those of them who had embraced Islam, to fight the Persians; he alighted at Khafan and summoned his people, and they became Muslims. Abu Bakr then wrote ordering him to hear and obey Khalid ibn al-Walid (may God be pleased with him); he met him at al-Nabaj, and met Jaban at Nahr al-Dam. He was the first conqueror of al-Sawad.

Al-Muthanna ibn Haritha al-Shaybani, one of the commanders of the opening of Iraq, whom al-Baladhuri counts the first conqueror of the Sawad; he called his people and they entered Islam, and he met Khalid at al-Nibaj.

Al-Muthanna ibn Haritha ibn Salama ibn Damdam al-Shaybani, one of the commanders of the opening of Iraq, whom al-Baladhuri counts the first conqueror of the Sawad. He raided the Sawad with men of his tribe Banu Shayban, so Abu Bakr wrote him a writ over those of them who entered Islam to fight the Persians; he camped at Khaffan, called his people and they entered Islam. Then Abu Bakr wrote him to hear and obey Khalid ibn al-Walid (may God be pleased with him) — he met him at al-Nibaj and met Jabban at the river. His name ties to Muthanna's writ and the opening of al-Hira, and he appears in the contents of al-Tabari's third volume with Abu Ubayd ibn Mas'ud under the year 13 AH.
