Summary

Of Banu Makhzum; Ibn Ishaq names him among the Abyssinian emigrants — and in the editors' note Ibn Abd al-Barr mentions al-Waqidi's saying "Hashim ibn Abi Hudhayfa". 1

In the Abyssinian emigrants chapter

Ibn Ishaq names him third of three men of Banu Makhzum in "the rest of the Abyssinian emigrants", as "Hisham ibn Abi Hudhayfa (may God be pleased with him) ibn al-Mughira". 1 The editors transmit in the note, from Ibn Abd al-Barr's Isti'ab, that al-Waqidi calls him "Hashim ibn Abi Hudhayfa", that Ibn Abd al-Barr counts "Hisham" an error, and that Musa ibn Uqba and Abu Ma'shar did not mention him among the emigrants to Abyssinia. 1

Tribe

He belongs, per Ibn Ishaq, to Banu Makhzum 1

Source notes and markers of doubt

  • A name disagreement: Hisham (Ibn Ishaq) or Hashim (al-Waqidi); and neither Musa ibn Uqba nor Abu Ma'shar mentions him among the Abyssinian emigrants — this is from the editors' note citing the Isti'ab (p. 7), and only its facts are recorded.
