عنبسة بن إسحاق الضبي

عنبسة بن إسحاق الضبي

In al-Baladhuri via al-Maqrizi's version: Egypt's amir, to whom al-Mutawakkil wrote ordering aid for Muhammad al-Qummi in the Buja war — he supplied what he needed. Earlier, as al-Mu'tasim's Sind governor, he razed Daybul's temple-tower for a prison and began the city's repair with its stones before dismissal.

Overview

Anbasa ibn Ishaq al-Dabbi, governor of Egypt in al-Maqrizi's account of al-Baladhuri. Al-Mutawakkil wrote to him to help Muhammad al-Qummi in the war against the Buja, and he did what was needed. 1

Before that he had been al-Mu'tasim's governor over Sind. He demolished the upper minaret of Daybul and made a prison in it, and began rebuilding the city from its stones, but was dismissed before it was finished. 1

The report is taken from the editor's footnote, and the attribution to al-Maqrizi is not given in the data; it needs an additional source.

Beja

In al-Baladhuri: a desert people with camels and herds whose land — a month's barren march of rugged mountains from Islam's lands — holds the gold mines; they raided Egypt's land and withheld the mines' dues, so Muhammad al-Qummi warred on them in al-Mutawakkil's time — their camels skittish at everything, he hung bells on his horses and the camels bolted — and they made peace in 241 on tribute and baqt.
