Overview

A man of the Jews of Khaybar. The Prophet was told that he was gathering Ghatafan to fight him, so he sent Abd Allah ibn Rawaha with a group of his Companions. 1 When they came to him and promised him that the Prophet would appoint him over Khaybar and honour him, he went out with them and a group of Jews. When they were at al-Qarqara, six miles from Khaybar, he regretted it, turned back on his mount and reached for his sword. Abd Allah ibn Unays struck him, cut off his leg, and struck him a light blow with a cudgel that split his head. Each of the Jews killed his companion, except one man who escaped on foot. See the report. 1 2

Notes for researchers

  • Ibn Ishaq calls him "al-Yasir", and in other books "Usayr"; the number of men with him was thirty in one copy (needs a source). 1
  • He is described as a "Jew" from the text of Ibn Ishaq, and the report of his gathering Ghatafan is one that Ibn Ishaq does not say who carried.
