    Overview

Al-Shihab al-Qusi, the leading jurist — agent of the Bayt al-Mal in Syria and endower of the Qusi circle at the mosque; born at Qus, he travelled to Egypt in 590, came to Damascus in 591 and settled, hearing much in many lands, and attached himself to the Sahib Safi al-Din Ibn Shukr. 1

    His affairs

He produced for himself a mu'jam in four large volumes — al-Dhahabi says it contains much error; a littérateur, chronicler, eloquent and fluent, versed in fiqh, he conducted correspondence to the lands, held the agency of the Bayt al-Mal, advanced with kings, taught at his circle in the mosque of Damascus, and endowed his house as a Dar al-Hadith. 1

the Cave of Qasyun (Jibril's Cave)

The mosque raised inside the cave of Mount Qasyun by Abu al-Faraj Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Mu'allim beginning in 370, after a dream in which Jibril bade him build a mosque where God's name would be remembered — he called it Jibril's Cave; a broad prayer-hall floored in white marble, its columns all marble, never empty of the pious at remembrance.
