    Overview

Al-Mursi, muhaddith, mufassir, grammarian; he heard the Muwatta from Abu Muhammad Ibn 'Ubaydallah and journeyed as far as the furthest Khurasan, hearing al-Kashshi from Mansur al-Farawi, Abu Ruh and the elders; a man of many travels and much roaming, gathering the sciences' branches — sharp-minded, piercing of intellect, many works, with zuhd, scrupulosity, poverty and self-denial; the hafiz al-Diya' was asked of him and said: a jurist-debater-grammarian of the ahl al-sunna — we kept his company and saw nothing from him but good. 1
