Overview

A great man of Bahrain from Abd al-Qays. The Prophet sent al-Ala ibn al-Hadrami to him before the conquest of Mecca, and he embraced Islam and his Islam was good. 1

In Ibn Hisham's biography

Ibn Ishaq ends the account of the delegation of Abd al-Qays by saying that the Prophet had sent al-Ala ibn al-Hadrami before the conquest of Mecca to al-Mundhir ibn Sawa al-Abdi, and that he embraced Islam and his Islam was good. Then he died after the Messenger of God, before the apostasy of the people of Bahrain, and al-Ala was with him as the Messenger of God's governor over Bahrain. See the Islam of al-Mundhir ibn Sawa. 1 The Sealed Nectar counts him among the kings of the Arabs to whom the Prophet wrote after al-Hudaybiyya. See the letters to the rulers and kings. 2

Al-Ala' ibn al-Hadrami's mission to al-Mundhir ibn Sawa and his conversion

Before the conquest of Mecca the Prophet sent al-Ala' ibn al-Hadrami to al-Mundhir ibn Sawa al-Abdi, lord of Bahrayn, who became a good Muslim; al-Ala' stayed as the Prophet's governor of Bahrayn until al-Mundhir died after the Prophet and before Bahrayn's apostasy. Later sources place it among the letters to the kings after al-Hudaybiyya.
