Overview
Al-Mu'izz ibn Badis, lord of the Maghrib of the Zirid house. He cut off the khutba for the Fatimids and gave the khutba for the Abbasids in 443 AH, as al-Suyuti mentions. 2
His stand on the Shi'a and the Fatimids
Ibn Khaldun relates that he had turned from the Shi'i doctrines and adopted the doctrine of the people of the Sunna, and he declared his doctrine at the start of his rule. He says that once his horse threw him, and he called out for help in the name of Abu Bakr and Umar, and the common people rose against the Shi'a and killed them. In his time the invocation for the Fatimids ceased, and he burned their banners and erased their name from the khutba. 3
His last days
Ibn Khaldun says that the Hilali Arabs came to Ifriqiya in his days and spoiled the roads and villages, until nothing was left to him but what the walls enclosed. He died suddenly in his palace in 454 AH. 3
Note: Ibn Khaldun gives 440 AH for the cessation of the invocation, while al-Suyuti gives 443 AH for the cessation of the khutba. This difference needs an additional source.
