Overview

Al-Harith ibn Abi Shumr al-Ghassani, whose rule over Syria was at the time Muhammad ibn Abd Allah was sent, when the Prophet called him to Islam, according to "Muruj al-Dhahab". 2

Hassan's visit

Hassan ibn Thabit visited him in Syria, and al-Nu'man ibn al-Mundhir, the Lakhmid king of al-Hira, was his rival. Hassan told him that he had heard he preferred al-Nu'man over him, and al-Harith gave a well-known reply, which turns on his saying that his back of the neck was better than al-Nu'man's face. Al-Mas'udi describes the report as famous. 2
