Summary

Abu Burda ibn Niyar al-Ansari, maternal uncle of al-Bara' ibn Azib — the well-attested view, though some made him a paternal uncle. He witnessed Badr and the battles after it. 1

Dispute over his name

His name is disputed: Abu Umar gave it as Hani', distinguishing him from another Abu Burda ibn Niyar; others said Malik ibn Hubayra, or al-Harith ibn Amr. A hadith of al-Bara' reads "I met my uncle al-Harith ibn Amr," which grounds the al-Harith attribution, though it may refer to a different uncle of al-Bara'. He narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, Jabir ibn Abdallah narrated from him, and al-Nasa'i transmitted his hadith. 1
