Overview

The amir Abu al-Hayja al-Samin was among the greatest and bravest of the Salahi amirs, according to Ibn al-Athir. Al-Kanz killed his brother, who was amir in his fief in Upper Egypt, so Abu al-Hayja marched against him with a group of amirs and troops sent by Salah al-Din. He took the city of Tawd, then overtook al-Kanz and killed him and those with him in 570 AH. 2

Kanz al-Dawla's revolt in Upper Egypt (570 AH)

Early 570 (1174): Kanz rose in Upper Egypt, drawing crowds of locals, Sudanese and Arabs and killing a Salahiyya amir — brother of Abu al-Hayja 'the Fat'; Abu al-Hayja marched on him with a Saladin detachment, stormed Tud, then caught and killed Kanz and his Arabs, and the country was quiet after him.
