Summary
Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, that he heard a man ask Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) about the spoils (anfal). Ibn Abbas said: the horse is part of the spoils, and the plunder is part of the spoils. The man kept asking until he almost embarrassed him; Ibn Abbas said: do you know what the like of this is? It is like Subay al-Dhari, whom Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) beat. The editor notes that Subay ibn Asal came to Medina asking about the ambiguous verses of the Qur'an, and Umar beat him for that. 1
