Summary
Malik transmits that he heard people of knowledge forbid fasting the doubtful day of Shaban if one intends by it the fast of Ramadan. They hold that whoever fasted it without sighting and then it was established that it was Ramadan owes making it up, and they see no harm in his fasting it as a voluntary fast. Malik said: this is the matter among us, and what I found people of knowledge following in our city. The editor notes that Abu Musab transmitted it from Malik (836). 1
