Summary
Yahya said: Malik was asked when the tenth is taken from olives: before or after the expenses? He said: the expenses are not considered; rather its people are asked about it, as the people of food are asked about food, and they are believed in what they say. Whoever's olives reach five wasqs or more has a tenth taken from his oil after it is pressed; whoever's olives do not reach five wasqs owes no zakat on his oil. The editor notes that the addition 'or half of it' in one copy has no basis; Abu Musab transmitted it. 1
